If I were to put into words what my experience has been these last 3 weeks completing campaigns with agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, 100 Roses From Concrete, and Digitas is the phrase from my favorite anime character Yami Sukehiro “Push past your limits.” These words are very indicative of the journey I've taken to become a better strategist.
When MAIP first informed us about group projects I was honestly terrified! My impostor syndrome was working in overdrive! Thinking “Man, you’re surrounded by so many talented people you can’t possibly measure up,” but then I met the members of team 8, formally known as 4:59, right on time. We all came from places around the country like Miami, Portland and even New York, yet the thing we had in common was the commitment to doing great work, no matter what the obstacle. So as we battled against time and time zones, busy work schedules, and even an outlandish “Ask” we pushed past our limits to create some of the best work we’ve ever made.
Throughout the experience there was frustration, however I learned so much from my teammates through the beauty of touching base and in my conversations with them, life revealed to me a few inherit gifts that I didn’t know that I had. For one, I am very good at being able to sort through the fluff and make complex things understandable. Two, I am fairly good with my words and the intentionality behind them makes an impact. Lastly, i’m creative too! Many times I have counted myself out of this category, for not being skilled in visual creations, but my knack for creating great concepts along with my strategy skills have proven to be quite the asset.
I came in this experience feeling alone, overwhelmed, and filled with self doubt, but I’m leaving it with confidence in myself and a tribe that has my back.
